GREATEST GIFT
What is your greatest gift that you have received so far?
Some of us, their greatest gift are
material things that they desired the most.
Some are people that they loved the most.
Allow me to tell my personal
greatest gift so far.
Last 2015, during regional
conference of Metro Manila (Couples for Christ-Singles for Christ) launched the
topic about “Family is a Gift”. The themed during that time moved the hearts of
every participant. The conference opened the eyes of the many that trials, and
challenges do happen even in the main source of Love, which is HOME. Every
family has its unique way to deliver its love. Some families are quite perfect
to the eyes of the others, some are imperfect and some are broken.
Despite of its imperfections, we are always tried to be grateful and seek for His guidance to look on a manner of How the Greatest creator look at it. That conference, told the participants to be grateful, hopeful, and faithful that everything will fall into its proper place, as long as we lean on His understanding and not on our own.
Through the years, I am grateful and blessed to have a family that is not so perfect but perfect on the way the Creator looked at it. They are the greatest treasure that I can have. They are indeed the greatest gift.

In the past decades of my life (yes decades! haha), I was looking forward for every Sunday. Because Sunday is family day. We tried to practice it, and have some quality time as a family. During those times, our bonding time evolved in household chores, and palengke time. Pasig and Marikina Palengke were our favorite spots. Sometimes, I joined my mother to go to Baclaran (hindi para magsimba, haha, pero para bumili ng mga paninda niya sa trabaho). She is a hard-working mother. We also repacked some goods so that she will sell it at work (like sweet beans, and nuts). Repacking was one of my favorite play time.
On the other hand, my father is my favorite in asking some favors because he gave me money for my “merienda”. Five pesos lang masaya na ako. Like my mother, He was hardworking. He was a security guard. He also had a sideline; he was a sidecar driver after work. His income from his sideline will be used for his allowance.

We are not wealthy by material things, but my parents are indeed wealthy with a good heart. They are always wanted to share, even though they don’t have much. They tried to communicate with humility. And I will define them, as what the greatest commandment always reminded us, which is Loving your Neighbor.
My parents become an instrument for
so many sources of my well-being. I am were right now, because of my parents.
They guide me and become my light while journeying in this life. They pushed me
and helped me to be the best version of myself (but I am still working on
progress). They are patiently guiding me and loving my imperfections. Recently,
I’ve shared my thoughts about conflicts at work, they still help me to keep
calm, and instead gave a sensible advice. They never tolerate the emotions that
full of anger, but they will always share their listening ears and give a
humility advice. How lovely are they, isn’t? They are my saving grace through
my ups and downs. They turned my sadness into a joyful one.

All of these are the immeasurable
gift that the world can never give. It is greatest gift that the Lord can give to
me. My family may be different from yours. You may see it as not perfect as it
is, and yes, I agree! But through His grace, I able to see God’s perfect
creation despite of its imperfections. And indeed, Family Is a Gift more than
to what the world can offer.
