HOW CAN I HELP?
Have you tried to watch the medical series in Netflix, which is New Amsterdam? A good friend of mine recommended this series. I tried to check on it, and after couple of hours I didn’t realized that I am in episode 3 already. The series is good. They are good in portraying different characters in the medical field (Magegets mo ito kapag nasa field ka 😅). More than of the character, I moved by the dedication of the medical director to help every department down to ordinary staff and patient. His motto become the motto of everyone, which is, “How can I help?”
In this difficult time, helping is
the best thing that we can offer to each and every one. It can be through different
corner of our house, our community, our relationship, and our workplace. A
simple question of how can we help, can give a lot of hope to other end and
boosting one’s morale.
One of my superior head before once
said, as a nurse we need to offer an extra mile for every patient even beyond
our roles and responsibilities. And then I have realized that if teachers are
the second parent of a student, then a nurse is the second family/ home of every
patient. Indeed, it is a good teaching to extend one’s arm especially to the
lonely, and helpless.
In this difficult time, may this
teaching and the message of the show instill in us. In the health sector, it is
an extra challenge for all of us. We become confidant of every patient
especially those who worked in COVID facility. To those nurses who followed the
different nursing theories about caring and others I admire you all. To those who
extend help beyond their duties and responsibilities just to secure the patient’s
safety, and extend an extra care I salute you all. To those who tried to sympathize
and be with us in our journey, I thank you all. To those who haven’t tried to
extend their care or even asking how are they on the field especially on the floors
your time is NOW!
We badly need each other. We badly need our co-worker’s presence! We badly need that kind of care. As the saying goes, we cannot give if we do not have. ‘Pag nauubos ka na, minsan kelangan mo ng magrefill. We cannot build home for others if we are experiencing storm (physically, emotionally). Understand the noises that is bleeding into everyone’s heart. The battle is on, and we need each other. Sometimes it is hard to understand the different noises unless you never tried to dwell on them. Be with them, journey with them. Your extra effort will appreciate by everyone.
May we be like Max Goodwin of New Amsterdam, his position never limits on the corners of his office but he extends his help to everyone, and tried to ask “HOW CAN I HELP?”
